I'm a mechanical engineering student at the University of Minnesota. I design and test hardware for a dilution refrigerator in a dark-matter lab, work on building controls for UMN Facilities, and build things on my own, like the self-balancing bike in the video.

Research and work

SuperCDMS group · School of Physics and Astronomy

Undergraduate researcher

I'm one of the main operators of the group's Bluefors LD250 dilution refrigerator. I designed a heater mount for the 4 K stage, used it to load-test the stage at 0.54 W (3.49 K to 4.33 K), then rewired the leads in phosphor bronze to cut conducted heat load. I compiled a 13-part drawing package for another university's detector holder and turned our machine shop's DFM feedback into design changes, and designed a sheet-metal bracket, a CNC-machined feedthrough plate and cryostat spacers (seven print iterations).

Now redesigning a two-axis radioactive-source mover with a $1,800 UROP award, and helping revise the paper about it.

Photos and drawings will be added once the collaboration clears them.

UMN Facilities · Energy Management

Energy management intern (student assistant)

I build Johnson Controls Metasys operator graphics for 10+ campus buildings, and turned the mechanical drawings for the Peters Hall upgrade into controls schematics.

I also screened chilled-water ΔT and flow data across campus to flag coils that waste pumping energy, and estimated the gas use of an art-building kiln room.

Write-up to follow.
